DED Associates is an international design agency. Its output is diverse, crossing print, film, websites and other visual media and featuring commissions from clients in business, publishing and the arts, as well as self-initiated projects.Founded by Jon and Nik Daughtry in 1991, DED pursues its own, ultra-contemporary path in design. Treating its clients' imagery and words as raw materials, DED creates active and often anarchic visual environments that beg exploration.
The DED approach has attracted a number of high-profile clients. Highlights of the portfolio include: 'Crazy World', a cross-media advertising campaign for Nissan; a credit card for MTV; 'Hybrids', an exhibition catalogue for Tate Liverpool; and numerous music-related projects for clients such as Chrysalis, Universal Records and EMI.
At a strategic level, DED has provided the creative direction on a number of campaigns for major brands such as Coca-Cola, Grolsch, Nissan and Intel. It is regularly being asked by agencies to provide art direction and design on specific projects. TBWA, Weber Shandwick and Leith are among those that have grasped the value of outsourcing creative work to a design firm with its own visual point of view while retaining control of the product.
Besides commissions, DED has had two solo design books published. 'Travel Sickness', published by DGV in 2000, extends DED's investigations into the connections between text and image. Described by ID Magazine as 'maximalism at its most memorable and unnerving', it became a best-seller in its class. 'Do Not Inflate', a textless deconstruction and re-amalgamation of aircraft safety cards, was released in 2002, by Laurence King.
DED was selected to appear in Graphic Design for the 21st Century: 100 of the World's Best Graphic Designers (Taschen), and is often described as representing a vital current in visual communication. DED's work has been featured in magazines and design journals such as notably IDEA (Japan), IDN (Hong Kong), Etapes (France) and Creative Review (UK), and in design-related books, including Trigger, ZOO, Pictoplasma and Los Logo.

Agent Provocateur floral fruity walls.
Lingerie Luminaries Agent Provocateur have more or less single handedly transformed the attitude to covering the female form in exactly the correct fashion to empower the wearer and cause a perpendicular attitude in the voyeur.
But what to show and what to shroud? It is this balance that sets the heart racing, either way the covering is the key.
So with what would these purveyors of come-hither apparel cover the walls with? Well, A good thing knows a good thing when it see's it.
Currently spread eagle across the walls of the Agent Provocateur in Stuttgart, Berlin and Leeds.

Dark eyed songstress Siouxsie never actually went away, continuing to circle the camp but always refusing to come in from the cold. She has retained a loyal tribe of followers resulting in the consistent recording and releasing of new material. DED have been responsible for the artwork of all those releases for nearly ten years and her new album 'MANATARAY' continues the tradition. Due for release in autumn this year it is the singer's first solo work and is eagerly awaited by her hordes of faithful fans and people who like nice artwork surrounding their listenables.

Paper Voyeur spotted in NYC.
The Apartment in NYC recently threw a party at their SoHo HQ entitled 'Design Blogfest' to celebrate NY design week. Naturally those in attendance were not at school on this or any other day due to being just too damn cool for it. Clearly the place had to be made very ship shape for these particular sailors. Stefan's the man at the Apt and he is one heck of a design fan. So, one huge order later of Paper Voyeur wallpaper from DED HQ and the place was fit for quite a few queens and the odd king. On wall and ceiling party go-ers were cosseted by the flora and fornication of DED's fabulous range. Say what you like about the Americans but they know how to hang a roll of wallpaper on the ceiling.
For Rent!
DED with a little oh la la.
Le Pre Aux Cepes is a charming 19th century holiday maison located in the Bordeaux region of that big landmass across from little old us (that's us the UK, not us the US), Le France. DED purchased it and renovated it and redesigned it and molded it into the edifice of taste and sophistication that it now is. You can go and stay in it if you like but you'll have to be sharpish as it's no longer a secret getaway and the bookings are flowing like a good bottle of Bordeaux. Looking at it is free though at the link below.
Sputnik Vodka - Ltd Etd. Bottle
We are honored to have created a limited edition bottle design for our comrades at Sputnik Vodka. The design is taken from Sputnik's 'Spirit of Adventure' illustration and wraps around the bottle and utilises the bottles transparency to reveal the completed design. The bottle is in production and will be available soon, but they will be very limited, so be sure to get one. * Note: Will make a beautiful vase when the vodka has gone.

Tour/exhibition design
Over the past three years scientist Professor Tony Ryan, University of Sheffield, and artist and designer Professor Helen Storey, London College of Fashion, have worked together to create real solutions for a more sustainable world.
The Wonderland exhibition brings together the worlds of art and science. By working together, Ryan and Storey have been able to use their different backgrounds to spark new ideas on the application of science and discover practical solutions to current ethical issues.
This unique exhibition is a showcase of talent, imagination and creativity and will be shown in a Sheffield, UK - citywide event between 18 June and 13 July 2008.
The project has developed a number of products, in varying stages of completion. The exhibition in Sheffield will demonstrate two of these: dissolving bottles and disappearing dresses.

"It is rare in the commercial world to be given the opportunity to contribute to a project which truly reflects the marriage of art and economics. Here at DED Associates that opportunity came in the form of Wonderland and, being conceived in our home town of Sheffield, bears even more resonance for us. We continue to relish the challenges that Wonderland presents and welcome the chance to collaborate towards this multifaceted and worthwhile enterprise".

Tour/exhibition design.
A product of a groundbreaking collaboration between the artist and fashion designer Helen Storey and the scientist Tony Ryan, 'Wonderland' uses fashion as a 'trojan horse' to progress a radical, two-year exploration into biodegradable materials. From 29 January-29 February 2008, the great fashion innovator of the 1980s and 90s Helen Storey will resume her fashion career -abandoned in 1995 in favour of pioneering science installations- live, in front of a public audience.
During a month-long residency at London College of Fashion's 'Fashion Space Gallery', Storey will construct her first collection in twelve years: a sequence of six dresses chemically fabricated specifically to 'disappear', over time in water. Whilst these dresses will later be installed in the project's second venue, in Sheffield this summer, Storey will be dissolving a pre-made garment throughout the London residency to demonstrate the miraculous plastics that Storey and Ryan have created.
Exhibition Starts: 29 January-29 February 2008. London College of Fashion

Glimpses of Postdot Graphic Design
The world changed. Political powers grew, economies drained and graphic design went back to its roots. Simplicity and innovation, resourcefulness when budgets are sparse, typography you can read, personality, protest, camp with an art of the street edge, not just the boardroom. Spoken with Eyes is a look at graphic design and what it's been up to since the dots burst. Presented by the Sacramento Art Directors & Artist Club (ADAC).

Over 300 full-color illustrations demonstrate how simple images and graphic devices can communicate all kinds of information wordlessly, yet powerfully.
